Our commitment to the environment and saving energy.
Solar Hot Water
We use solar heated hot water throughout the hotel.
Over time though, we have learnt that the time taken for hot water to reach each room was not ideal for our guests. To remedy this problem we had a circulator fitted which means you don't need to Ħ°runĦħ the water for long periods of time before it flows.
As with all solar hot water systems the water temperature varies each day and you may find that some days the temperature is not scorching hot. If we ever find the water temperature has fallen to an unacceptable level we fire up our back-up boilers to try and ensure our guests don't miss out on a hot shower.
Heating & Cooling
All the windows in our rooms have recently been double glazed.
Our reason for doing this is twofold ¨C save energy and reduce noise.
Yangshuo weather can be extremely hot in summer and very cold in winter. Our reverse cycle air conditioning units in each room help to keep our guests comfortable regardless of the season. However, when we designed the hotel we chose to have the largest windows possible under the existing building design. This means an incredible amount of energy is lost when heating and cooling the rooms. The double glazing reduces this loss resulting in our energy use being much more efficient.
The concept of double glazing an existing window was entirely new for the local tradesman so if you examine some rooms you may be able to see the results are a little rougher than we would like.
The advantage of our prime location also brings the vibrant sounds of our surroundings ¨C the double glazing significantly reduces the impact of noise.
Energy Saving Power Off Devices
All rooms require your key to be inserted into the power device to activate power in your room.
While we understand that this causes a little discomfort when having to wait a few minutes for the air-conditioning to cool the room is summer and heat in winter it actually is very environmentally friendly.
Waste Management
China has very effective recycling at micro level.
All paper, cardboard, metal, wood, plastic bottles, glass are separated from waste and recycled. Even the food and beverage waste from our kitchens is collected for use by local farmers.
